Hello beer blog, my old friend. Sorry for the neglect.
* We made pilsner. It was yummy. A few bottles exploded, though -- too much bottling sugar?
* Then Rick made another weizenbock. Still fermenting. I'm eager.
* Rock Bottom has really screwed up its mug club. What happened to the gift certificates?
* I finally made it to Father's Office in Santa Monica. Rawk. Plus I applied for a job there, which I never heard back about. That's okay; it would have been a good location but a bad job.
* I went to a new LA-area brewpub on Saturday but have no opinion yet as I COULD NOT HAVE A BEER. Dammit. I one sip I had was yummy.
So, boo hoo, I'm off booze for 10 days due to antibiotics. Interestingly, other than having to abstain at a brewpub, I don't miss it much. Usually, tell me not to consume something and my cravings are out of control within days. For instance, in college I was on medication that barred me from vinegar, and suddenly *everything* I wanted to eat had vinegar in it (ketchup, salad dressing...) I suppose booze isn't in everyday things like condiments, so it's easier to avoid, but still, I thought I'd be jonesing by now. It helps that Rick is out of town and drinking alone holds no appeal for me. It also helps that the two bars I've been to with friends since the ban (other than the brewpub) don't have any beer worth writing home about, anyway. One of them is a blues bar where I go strictly for the music; sober karaoke, on the other hand, sucks.
I'll be breaking the fast on Friday night at a Philadelphia cheesesteak bar/restaurant that at least has one or two decent brews. Beer and cheeseteak: I've never done that before, since I was 20 (and had no fake ID, and was alone, and didn't much like beer anyway) last time I was in Philadelphia. Should be tasty.
